So farewell, my 2nd gen Nokia, and hello, iPhone 4S!
This is a real jump in technology for me. I'm finding it so amazing that I'm able to access Facebook, search Google maps and blog from my mobile! And of course Siri is a lot of fun too.
I've also set up a Twitter account but I'll get round to linking that here later.

Technology. What a wonderful thing. :)Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-30931085634774394322011-10-22T02:55:00.000+11:002011-10-22T02:55:20.360+11:00Giveaway!
Ok, it wasn't that long ago, that I purchased the Urban Decay Book of Shadows III (along with the Naked Palette). Sadly, when it arrived on my doorstep, one of the shadows was broken! Shattered! Into a million pieces like the Death Star when it got blown up. /sadface

Look at that huge chunk stuck to the magnetic strip in the packaging!

Poor Perversion. I lost quite a bit of it because of the magnetic strip. But I wasn't going to give up on it completely. Luckily, there's heaps of videos and posts on the web on how to mend a broken eyeshadow. And it's actually really easy! :)

So here's what you need:

Rubbing alcohol, aka methylated spirits. Very important. This is what will bind the powder together. The more concentrated it is, the faster your shadow will dry. Mine is 90%. You can get this quite easily from a pharmacy. Alcohol also makes for a good disinfectant! We use 70% ethanol in the lab to disinfect surfaces (bench tops mostly). A dropper or something that allows you to pour the alcohol onto your
eyeshadow in a small controlled amount would be handy (I just used a
little plastic spoon that I had in the kitchen), as well as a small container to pour the rubbing alcohol into.

Disclaimer: Safety first, kids! Alcohol is flammable, even the fumes (which can also make you drunk lol!), so make sure you've got good ventilation and aren't near any open flames or heat sources. There! So if you set yourself on fire or get caught for drunk driving after mending your eyeshadow, you can't say I didn't warn you! :p

Something to mash your eyeshadow with (toothpicks, in my case). I think breaking the eyeshadow down before pressing it back into shape makes it easier for the individual particles to bind together. And you're less likely to get any pockets of air inside.

Something with a flat surface to press the eyeshadow. Preferably in the same, or slightly smaller, size and shape as the eyeshadow pan. If it's too big, you won't be able to get an even surface as you'll see later on. I couldn't find anything else around my home, so I used the cap of an old YSL lipstick (!!) which didn't quite fit.

Something to cover your "presser" (yeah, I couldn't think of a better word). A lot of tutorials suggest using paper towel or a cloth, so that you get a nice imprint on the eyeshadow. I chose clingwrap because I didn't want to waste any more of my eyeshadow because it will stick those other materials.

So first you crush it...

Then you dunk it (in your rubbing alcohol)...

You don't really need a lot here, depending on how much eyeshadow there is, a few drops will do. I think I may have gone a little overboard with mine, but oh well. It evaporates pretty quickly. I just mixed the eyeshadow and rubbing alcohol using the toothpick.

Then you press it...

Just press firmly, and all over til the surface is even.

Let it dry...

It doesn't really take very long to dry, but I wouldn't suggest using it straight away. I forgot to time how long it took, but if you leave it overnight you should be fine. Some people say to use a hairdryer or put it in the oven, but I don't think there's a need for that.

And finished!

Easy, right? If you've got any questions, please do comment and ask!

Just a quick update on me: I'm actually back in my home country of sunny sunny Singapore! Getting fat on all the delish food. And I'm still writing up my thesis, can you believe it?! I, unfortunately, can. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'll never finish.
Best things about being back: Food! There's so much choice and it's so cheap (or it can be)! Crazy good shopping! Again, lots more choice, especially for Asian brands like Holika Holika, Majorca Majolica. Sasa, Uniqlo and Sephora have physical stores here too, as well as new player H&M (SO HAPPY!). Family! I'm not so fond of being nagged and pressured all the time by parents but still. It's nice to be together. And I get to see my brother and cousins!
Worst things about being back: Too humid. Too many people. I don't know how to get around anymore (FAIL). I miss my friends. I miss Melbourne. I miss my (Melbourne) home. I miss my boyfriend. I miss my dance classes and the Melbourne Latin dance scene. There, that's two of my biggest addictions out of reach.

Ok, I'll just abruptly end it here, as it's getting late and I need to sleep. Maybe I'll do a haul post next.... ;)
Yeah, no I haven't forgotten about this blog, nor did I quietly decide to abandon it. Unfortunately for me, thesis writing and prep for my final presentation completely took over for a while. Still not done with that, although the presentation is over (YAY! I could have passed out with relief.). :( Noooo why am I still writing goddammit! But it's okay, I'm close. I'm so close! (if I keep telling myself that, it'll come true right?!)

Anyways, decided I needed the respite (and to clear my Google Reader - coming up on 1000 unread entries zomg!) so I'm back! Sporadically at least.

Upcoming:
- a couple FotDs (where I desperately try to remember what was used)
- NYX (from Cherry Culture) haul
- One Day in Paradise x Illamasqua x Richard Ibrahim Photography event
- MAC eBay haul
- Illamasqua haul (/EXCITED)
- (hopefully) more product reviews and swatches

We'll see if I can get round to doing swatches, it's time consuming for me right now, and I have to rely on natural lighting. /shakesfistatMelbournewinterweather

Sneak peak of the next post!

Is it obvious what it's going to be on?

That's all for now! :)Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-3895666671391175222011-06-08T23:20:00.002+10:002011-06-08T23:20:00.866+10:00Hello, Kitty!Nono, I haven't forgotten about this blog. Been really really busy with writing, and plus my parents are visiting from Singapore! Yay homecooked meals! Everything tastes so much better when your mum makes it, don't you think?
Here, have this haul post in the meantime! :D

Wow, it's been a while since my Sunnanz order came in. But the masks were sooooo cute, I had to share!

The My Beauty Diary x Hello Kitty masks come in 2 varieties - Strawberry Milk (pink) and Honey Milk (yellow). I'm quite glad they sent the boxes as well, the designs are so cute! I ordered 2 of each which was overkill in hindsight. For some reason I thought that there were 7 pieces to a box, but there are actually 10! I was really surprised at first when I opened the package, I thought they'd made a mistake with my order... :p

Sanrio sticker!

Each one has 3 different designs for the individual mask packaging. You get 3 pieces of each design plus a randomly chosen one in each box.

Yeah, definitely overkill. Oh well, it would make a great gift!Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-82272245250174583152011-05-23T21:19:00.001+10:002011-05-23T21:31:54.386+10:00I live in the seaDidn't realise I'd run out of scheduled posts. :p Oops.

So I don't really have anything at the moment, I thought I might take this time to do a little wishlist! In no particular order:

1. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadows in any shade. They look so gorgeous! And so amazingly pigmented.

2. Coat or jacket. Would you believe that I've been wearing the same 2 jackets on rotation for the last 5 years or so? The pocket stitching on one of them is actually coming undone lol! I've been eyeing this one from Forever New. I've also taken advantage of the ASOS clearance section and made an order! Can't wait!

3. Knitwear. My jumpers and other cold weather things are all pretty much in the same state as my jackets. :p

4. New moisturiser. I need something that isn't oily but still delivers on moisture.

5. Socks. I know exactly how Dumbledore feels.

6. A new makeup remover. I'm quite keen to try any of the Shu Uemura ones like this one, or the HadaLabo one.

7. NARS anything. I've never tried any of their products. The Dogon eyeshadow duo looks gorgeous too.

8. Skirts! In particular, I've been eyeing this one from MNG. I'd also really like a pencil skirt or something similarly job interview friendly, as well as some fun skirts that I can wear out for salsa dancing.

9. Rock & Republic eyeshadows and blushes. Doesn't seem likely though, if the rumours of their cosmetics line being discontinued are true. And that makes me sad. :(

10. MAC Jeanius line. Particularly, the blush in Pink Cult and the nail lacquer in Frayed to Order.

Well, that's it for now. I limited myself to 10 things, but of course, it's by no means exhaustive. ;D

What's on your wishlist?Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-58078044975428077592011-05-18T21:33:00.000+10:002011-05-18T21:33:00.297+10:00Mega ringlight!Okay, so this isn't actually something that I'd done myself. But I thought it was too cool not to share!

I was looking up videos on Youtube on DIY lightboxes, after being inspired by Ling's story on how her husband made her one (lucky girl!). But then I stumbled on this video.

Biggest ringlight ever?!
I'd probably electrocute myself if I tried to make one since I don't have any electrical/wiring/etc know-how. But if I could... well. I can say goodbye to waiting for days with halfway decent sunlight to take photos for FotD posts at the very least! :pStephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-42211060570874038292011-05-16T21:00:00.000+10:002011-05-16T21:00:01.972+10:00Easter FotNSo that night I went out dancing! I never expected to love it so much, when I first starting taking salsa classes about.. oh, 2 and a half years ago now? Although lately I've been stuck in a limbo phase, after doing that technique course. Because now I know what I'm doing wrong, all the mistakes and bad habits. In my head while I'm dancing now, I'll be like "Must remember to do this. And do that. Shit! I'm not supposed to do that! Mistake! Mistake! RAWR! /rage". Doesn't make for a very enjoyable night, but hey! Practice makes perfect, right?

So anyway, this is the look I did.

Since it was night time, I had to take photos in my toilet - the only place with okay lighting in my home. But I hate it! You get all these weird shadows on your face when the light source is coming from above, and it's not a big enough room for me to stand further back. Bah.
Looking back at the photos, I'm feeling kinda "meh." about this look, I feel like I may have overblended Psychedelic Sister and Creep? But at the time I felt quite self-conscious, I'm not used to doing as heavy an eye look as this.

Some random pics cos I feel weird just posting 2!

This is at a place in Yarraville, called Acqua e Vino. I was there for the boyfriend's gig. He plays drums in a latin band. This was early in the afternoon, I was with them when they went to set up.

Really nice place, it's got an interesting mix of decor styles. European, Oriental, modern, old-timey. Lots of comfy seating. And great floor too! For dancing that is. XD
I really quite like the combo of Cosmo and Devilishly Stylish. I've not really been a big lipstick fan in the past, so I don't have many. Maybe 3? It's nice to layer glosses over them to make them look different, makes it seem like I have more lol!
This time NYX themselves are having a MASSIVE sale on their site. Unfortunately they do not ship internationally, so the rest of the world will have to either use a shopping service of some sort or sit this one out. But it sounds like it's going to be a really really awesome sale, so don't miss out if you can!
Sigh! If I could, I'd probably get as many blushes and lipsticks as I could. <3 blushes!

What would you get?Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-55989377986959379902011-05-10T03:24:00.013+10:002011-05-10T03:24:00.671+10:00My MAC Mineralize collection! + swatches

MAC's Mineralize line has been around for some time, but it was only recently that I got my hands on some of their products, namely, Skinfinishes and a blush!
From MAC:
Mineralize Skinfinish

A luxurious velvet-soft powder with high-frost metallic finish. Smoothes on: adds buffed-up highlights to cheeks and brows, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face.
Mineralize Blush

Baked minerals refined into a powder formula to provide exceptionally sheer and lightweight application. Colour builds lightly, layer after layer, without heavy coverage. Veils and enhances the cheekbones with a luminous, pearlized shimmer.
I'm so so so in love with these, particularly the MSFs because they are so multifunctional! I've been mainly using them as blushes, but I've also tried them as a highlighting powder, and an all-over face powder (with a light hand) for general glow. They can also be used as eyeshadows, depending on the shade, and on the body. I've found them to be super duper pigmented, and a little really does go a long way!
What I have (no particular order):

Mineralize Blush in Dainty (peachy pink)

I like this for everyday sort of looks. It's not as shimmery like some of the others (I'm looking at you, Smooth Merge!), but gives more of a gentle glow.

Mineralize Skinfinish in Smooth Merge (darkened pink when blended)

The most glittery of the bunch! Well. It's not glitter glitter, but it is fairly shimmery. This is probably the one that I reach for the least, purely because of the shimmer.

Mineralize Skinfinish in Brunette (peachy bronze)

I originally got this thinking that I might be able to use this as a bronzer, or for contouring. I'm not sure it turned out to be the best choice for that because it's bit too peachy on me, but I still like it as a blush. It looks very natural.

Mineralize Skinfinish in Light Flush (muted pale dusty rose with a pinky gold sheen)

This one is really light, it's hard to use it as a blush because I have to really build up the colour. But it's nice as an all-over, or to highlight the cheekbones. The colour reminds me of this dress by Mary Magdalene (but warmer and pinker), one of my favourites, hence the description.

Mineralize Skinfinish in Petticoat (darkened raspberry pink)

Petticoat is easily my favourite, how pretty does it look! The veining was probably what attracted me at first, and never mind about the colour when worn! It deserves another picture~

It almost looks like some gorgeous alien planet... hehe! I definitely use this one the most, it's the perfect shade for me as a blush.
Swatches in indirect sunlight (which photographs quite cool, a quirk with Panasonic cams), and warmer down light <strike>in my bathroom</strike>. At the top is a swatch of Majolica Majorca Cheek Customize cheek colour in PK333, which is more matte than the MAC products, and is a light pink.

Refuse to pay ridiculous annual membership fees to mail forwarding services? Don't have a credit card or prefer Paypal? Then Parcel It On might just be for you!

In case you haven't noticed, I loves me some Urban Decay! I use the Naked Palette almost everyday, and love their 24/7 eyeliner pencils and the cult favourite, eyeshadow Primer Potion. But sadly, they don't ship overseas, and goodness knows when I'll get to visit Sephora Singapore again. Well, actually I'm going home in Nov for a friend's wedding, but anywayyyyy...! The point is! Sometimes a girl just wants things now, or as close to now as possible.
I really really wanted the Urban Decay 15th Anniversary 24/7 Glide On eye pencil set, as well as a single pencil in Yeyo (it wasn't in the set, boo). Ebay prices are always jacked up, and the set was still in stock on the Urban Decay site anyway (this was some months ago).

Enter Parcel It On! I used their Assisted Purchasing service.

Pros:

Easy email based system. I just emailed them a list of what I wanted, with links, and they replied with a quote which included item prices, domestic shipping, and their service fee (they also checked item availability at this point). To continue, I just sent them payment via Paypal.

Fast! I don't think I ever waited for even a day to get a reply from them.

Email updates on your order status. They sent me emails to let me know when they had placed my order, when they had received my order, and when they had sent it to me.

4% service fee. This is great if you have a relatively cheaper order. If you're getting more expensive items, you may want to consider a service that charges a flat fee.

International shipping options. They offer a few different options for shipping, so you can get insured shipping, and/or sign-on-delivery, if you want. Or tracking too! I went with the cheapest option lol.

Cons:

Invoice fee. They charge a 3.9% fee every time they invoice you. This is on top of their service fee, and their mail forwarding fee, and although they don't say so on their site, I believe it is for Paypal charges. And they will invoice you at least twice, once when you place your order, and once for international shipping for your package to you.

Additional $12US mail forwarding fee. If you have a large order, this won't seem that much, but for a smaller order it can seem a bit excessive.

I was pretty happy with their service. Didn't really have any complaints, they were very efficient and friendly to communicate with. That's all really. The pricing gets a little bit more complicated if you are ordering from different sites, and want to combine international shipping (extra $2.50US for each package), and again if your order needs to be sent in separate packages for whatever reason (extra $10US for each package). You can read more about their charges and additional services (returns, package storage etc) here.

The package, when I received it, came in a fairly sturdy cardboard box.

My items were bubble wrapped. I think they could have used a little more, the set was a little squashed, but I didn't really mind too much.

Eyeliner HEAVEN! This is probably my favourite type of make up product, tied with blushes.

Took it out of its plastic sleeve, hehe! Super excited about Perversion, it's supposed to be even blacker than Zero!

I'm planning to use Yeyo to line the inner eye corner, and possibly the waterline as well. Hopefully it won't fade there, like Zero does.

This includes their single eyeshadows, Round lipsticks, Black Label lipsticks, Jumbo eyepencils, and heaps of other stuff. The sale is only on til May 8th.
I've already put in my order, been wanting to bump up my eyeshadow and lippie collection. I've stayed up wayyy past my bedtime, trying to pick what shades to get and googling up swatches (this forum thread was pretty helpful). There are so many, my eyes are going to fall out of their sockets. But it was so worth it. I need some matte shadows! Urban Decay, I love you, but seriously! What is with all the shimmer. :(

I'm so loving the strong Aussie dollar right now. So good! I have about 4 weeks until the completion date for my degree, OMG! The pressure is on! What am I doing, blogging?!
I'm in denial, that's what. And procrastinating. LOL let's just call it de-stressing, shall we? In all seriousness though, I think it's time to take advantage of Blogger's scheduling function. Quite a nifty little idea, although hardly original in my mind.

May also means Mother's Day, and there's certainly an increase in the number of Mother's Day themed posts as the weekend draws nearer. I'm a terrible daughter and hardly ever get my mum anything on Mother's Day (my excuse is that we're in different countries). But the MOR Essentials "Essentially Yours" gift set seems like a popular choice amongst bloggers. I've not tried any of their products, but I am really tempted to pick up a set after reading so many glowing reviews of MOR products. The price seems really reasonable too.

But would she use it? Hmmmm...Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-69420780954975072152011-05-01T10:43:00.082+10:002011-05-01T10:43:00.613+10:00Face of the Day: MFBB Attempt #3MFBB: My Face But Better
I really need to be more prompt with these. I was guessing for half the products, cos I can't remember exactly! But I think I've got it right.
You can see in the first photo that the BB cream doesn't quite cover up acne hyperpigmentation. And this Bourjois mascara is doing nothing for my lashes. Nothing. D: But I am loving the matteness of the Lioele BB cream + setting powder. I dunno, I'm not that big a fan of the dewy look, especially for photos. It just looks oily most of the time!
One thing I've realised though, my MAC Mineralize products don't seem to "stick" very well to the two BB creams that I've tried so far (Lioele and Skin79). I have to apply them before setting the BB creams, and I always feel like I have to work a bit harder to get some colour. I've tried them with my Paul & Joe foundation, and don't feel like I have the same problem, so they probably just don't play well together. Maybe it's the silicone content? Hmm, think I'll check.Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-18003629026496939622011-04-29T22:40:00.002+10:002011-04-30T00:46:16.604+10:00Review: Dove Essential Nutrients Protective Moisturising Lotion SPF15Unless you've been living under a rock, you are probably aware that the royal wedding is going down right now. But what am I doing? Blogging, catching up on my GFC follow list, uploading photos... At least I'm doing something that's kinda British - watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone lololol! No offense, but I'm not terribly interested in watching the ceremony. Not even to find out what dress she's wearing, although I will no doubt be bombarded by photos of it in the media during the next few days.

The fact that I also DON'T HAVE A TV RIGHT NOW might also have something to do with it.
Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha hurray for the analog signal being turned off in my area. :( And no, I don't have a digital tv. :(((((((

So instead of that, I did a review post! Yay!

Okay. I bought this a while back as I'd finished my usual moisturiser, Biotherm Aquasource gel cream for normal/combination skin. I wanted to try this since I'd read a couple positive reviews about it, and I was looking for a cheaper alternative.
I tried it for maybe 3 weeks? before I gave up and switched to the Nivea one that was in my last haul post.
It wasn't terrible, it didn't break me out, and my skin didn't become terribly dry or oily. But I noticed that the texture of my skin felt rougher, thicker, not as soft as it used to be, even though I was exfoliating as per normal. And it wasn't as moisturising as I would have needed it to be.
I also did not like the texture of this lotion, it felt quite thick and heavy, and I felt my skin wasn't able to absorb it very well. It left quite a tacky feeling after application, which lasted for longer than expected.

Maybe it was the texture, but the more I used this, the more I felt like I was applying sunblock and not a moisturiser.

Would I repurchase this? No. And this particular bottle is going into the use-up-as-hand/body-cream pile.

I was also quite bemused/horrified to see that this contains methyl methacrylate (albeit a crosspolymer, so probably a little different to what I'm thinking of). I'm pretty sure that we use it in the lab. D: I won't go into the gory details, but it's an ingredient in our resin recipe that we use to do microvascular casts. That particular technique isn't part of my project, so I could be wrong. /whistles innocentlyStephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-66272915695908058812011-04-29T20:56:00.001+10:002011-04-29T21:06:38.520+10:00Beauty Craze giveaway contest! The lovely ladies at Beauty Craze have an amazing $500 worth of cosmetics to give away to one lucky reader!
It's a public holiday today in Australia, and I've taken advantage of my day off and been productive - I repaired the broken eyeshadow in my Urban Decay Book of Shadows this morning! But that's a post for another day.
Today I'm sharing what I got during the 20% Priceline sale a few weeks ago.

I had just finished up my face and eye moisturisers so this sale came at a really good time. I was using Biotherm's Aquasource gel for normal/combination skin for my face, and their Hydra Detox moisturiser for eyes. I've been using both for some time, and felt like trying something new. And cheaper, lol!

I've had fairly decent results in the past with Nivea Visage moisturisers, so I decided to get something from their range again. I picked up their Aqua Sensation Invigorating Day Cream for normal/combination skin. I've been using it everyday since, and I quite like it. It smells nice, like cucumbers! But I think it's not quite as hydrating as I need, so I'll probably get something else next time.

I also picked up the Anti-shadow Eye cream from the same range. I don't like this as much as the face moisturiser, my skin doesn't seem to absorb it as well, and I don't think it really does anything for dark circles and puffiness (as it claims to).

I also recently ran out of spot treatment, so I got this Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 Fight & Fade Gel as well. It works pretty well, any pimples that I treat it with go away much quicker than before.

And finally, I'm looking for a new HG mascara, so this was a perfect opportunity to pick up the Maybelline Falsies Volume Express mascara. I haven't used this yet, so no opinions on it.

I also stopped by the local zakka store on Bourke Street, Tokuya! I really like that store, it's like a smaller Daiso, but closer.

I picked up another hair conditioner, since nothing seems to work for me! Neither did this aloe one as it turned out. :( Doesn't condition, and it irritates my scalp, causing itchiness and dandruff, yuck! (I've since discovered that Clairol Herbal Essences conditioner and a more expensive one from the Face shop work, phew!)

Random hand soap, peach scented! The fragrance is pretty strong, and lingers for a while. But I don't really mind. :p

Well, that's it for this haul! Tonight I'm heading off to do one of my favourite activites - social dancing at the Conga room! We've just finished week 7 of the ladies footwork course, and I really want to see if I've improved any. I already feel more stable, although I still have problems spotting turns. Can't wait for tonight! Maybe I'll do a strong eye look for tonight. XD

Happy Easter weekend!Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-17374347912298640382011-04-19T21:26:00.001+10:002011-04-22T14:31:28.171+10:00First FotD!Watching Dexter makes me want to learn Spanish.
Finally getting round to posting about the Lioele products that I got in my Pretty & Cute order!

I love love love the packaging! So pink and girly! Hahaha... Swatches near the end btw!
About Lioele (from the website):

The Lioele line will change you into a 21st century Cinderella with its large array of fresh spring colored cosmetics that will give you a cute and sexy feeling. With the large variety of products, it will satisfy any needs of the many different customer styles while maintaining an air of individuality for each particular taste.

First, the Lioele Gel Eyeliner. I'd never used a gel type liner before so I was a bit nervous about getting this.

What they say about it:

This cream gel type of eyeliner is soft and smooth as butter. It presents clear color with sophisticated eyes and last long without running.
As the container includes brush, it helps to do speedy and convenience makeup.

How to use:
Combine brush heading toward upside to container by pulling out the longer side of container. Open the opposite side of container and put adequate amount of contents to draw eye lines following eye. Be cautious to close the cap after the usage to prevent contents hardening.

Amusing Engrish aside, the packaging design is really cool! I've been having a bit of a thing for chrome finishes, so this really appeals to me. The deeper purple tone is also more cool and sophisticated than the hot pink packaging used for the other products.
As you can see, the liner comes in a little pot, with a brush that detaches from and can be reattached to the lid. Personally, I'm not a fan of the brush. As I said, I don't have much experience with gel liners, and I found it a little hard to use this brush because of the shape. I think an angled liner brush would have been easier.
As for the liner itself, I'm not sure I like it. The pigmentation is good, and it doesn't crease much or smudge. But it felt a little gritty, and it set really quickly, not ideal for a noob like me. The grittiness could possibly be because the product was a little old, not as 'fresh', or could be just the surface layer.

Ingredients:
Iron Oxide Black (CI 77499), Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polymethyl methacrylate, Polyethylene, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Mica (CI 77019), Polyisobutene, PVP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Zinc Stearate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Barium Sulfate (CI 77120), Propylene Carbonate, Buthyl Paraben, Triethoxy Caprylyl Silane, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol
May Contain [+/-]:
Iron oxide Black (CI 77499)
Iron oxide Red (CI 77491)
Iron oxide yellow (CI 77492)

Lioele Blooming Shimmer Pearl Base. I don't usually use makeup bases, I generally don't find that there's any difference. But I was curious about this one after reading about it on From Head to Toe.

What they say about it:

Unlike common makeup base that corrects skin tone only, luster and texture can be gorgeously enhanced by the light diffusing color system containing pearl for a radiant look.

How to use:
Softly apply adequate amount on your face.
The packaging is a pump type, so pretty easy to use. The base itself is a light pink with sorta purple/fuchsia shimmer. On its own, it does give a nice sheen, almost irridescence, but very gentle, to the skin. But I tried it under the Lioele BB cream and I didn't really see any difference. But to be fair, I only tried this once, maybe I didn't use enough? I generally use a very light hand the first time I use anything (scared, hee hee hee), so I'll keep trying it out. I didn't really notice a fragrance.

Ingredients:
Water, Cyclomethicone, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Butylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Betaine, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Magnesium Sulfate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Palmitic Acid, Methylparaben, Chlorphenesin, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Squalane, Carmine, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Sodium Hyaluronate, Fragrance

Lioele Beyond the Solution BB cream. I was probably most excited about the BB cream. Like I said in my haul post, I really wanted something to replace foundation, that's quick to apply, and gives decent coverage.

What they say about it:

Smooth application allows clear absorption for expressing a natural skin tone. Speedy application of makeup is possible since there is no need to apply makeup base of foundation.

How to use:
After last step of skincare, softly apply adequate amount on your face and make it absorbed with tapping.

I got the 30 ml tube because I wasn't sure about the colour match (it also comes in 50 ml and a mini size version that I just saw). I really like this, the finish is quite matte, and it blends well. A little goes quite a long way. Once, I used a little too much, and there was definitely a whitish cast, so you really don't want a heavy hand in application. I found that the coverage is a little on the sheer side, I have some hyperpigmentation from old acne scars, and this didn't quite cover them up completely. I wasn't too bothered though. I also didn't really need to set with powder, but my skin is a little on the dry side, so those with oilier skin may still need to do that. What I liked best about this was its staying power. I had a cold for the last week, and I found that this didn't rub off onto the tissues I used to blow my nose. Serious! How good is that! This wouldn't be possible with the foundation that I normally use (Paul & Joe).
Colour wise, I felt it was a touch lighter than my skin tone, but not by much. It seemed to have a slight whitish cast initially, but this went away after a while.

Ingredients:
Water, Cyclomethicone, Titanium dioxide (CI 77891), Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Talc, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Sorbitan Olivate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Squalane, Betaine, Magnesium Sulfate, Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Polyglutamic Acid, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Tocopheryl Acetate, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Bisabolol, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Allantoin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Fragrance.

The liner was US$18.50, the base $20.40, and the BB cream was US$12. But I had a 10% off code from From Head to Toe (you can go there to grab the code, it's in the sidebar somewhere), so it was slightly cheaper. Yay for discounts!

Swatches! The second photo was taken roughly 20 minutes after the first. Oops, forgot to label! But I think you can tell what's what, right? ;)
Size comparison against a MAC lipstick and Shu Uemura eyelash curler. I included this because I was surprised by how small the liner and the base were. After seeing photos on From Head to Toe, I imagined them to be a bit bigger.
Lol! I saw the bunny at my local Asian grocer, it had little individual serves of jelly pudding in mango, orange and strawberry flavour. I couldn't resist! It's so pink and cute. I thought it matched the Lioele colour scheme really well, hence the photo.

Phew! Long post! I've switched to trialling the Skin79 BB cream (gold type), so look out for a review on that soon too!

And now it's time for bed. Heh. ;)Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-59343452330907912092011-04-14T19:55:00.002+10:002011-04-14T20:01:11.243+10:00Haul: My Beauty Diary and Face Q masks / Casual review: SunnanzI just love it when I forget that I've ordered something, and when it arrives it's like getting a present. I placed a pre-order with Sunnanz for the My Beauty Diary x Hello Kitty collaboration face masks, and they arrived yesterday! I totally forgot about them because I had to wait for about a month lol.
But today's post is about my previous order, from their standing stock of My Beauty Diary and Face Q masks. I pretty much got one of whatever they had available. Ah hahaha, I love my masks.
You can read a bit about Sunnanz here.

Gigantic package! The whole transaction was pretty smooth. They have a shopping cart system on their site, after I finished picking what I wanted, I filled in my details, and hit the submit order button. Because I'm not in Singapore, I had to wait for an invoice email from them that included postage costs but it didn't take long, within 24 hours? They also sent email notifications when they sent my package out.
Face Q masks!

I really can't wait to try these out! I haven't yet, because I've been using the Face Shop packs, but I'll get round to these soon. I've heard so much about them, really hope they live up to the hype. They certainly seem to be always sold out on Sasa, which was why I chose to order from Sunnanz instead.
I'll definitely be ordering from them again, in addition to MBD and Face Q masks, they also have other brands of Taiwanese masks, as well as various Korean skincare products in stock. They also do preorders for a lot of Korean makeup/skincare brands and clothing items - more shopping! Omg!

I'm wayyyyy behind on haul posts. Would also love to do some swatch posts too so look out for that too!Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-57457097121022267542011-04-04T20:19:00.002+10:002011-04-06T20:23:28.422+10:00Review: The Face Shop Fresh Cucumber packLast week I wrote about the Hydrating Milk pack from The Face Shop, this week, it's the Fresh Cucumber pack (AU$17)!
Pics:

It has a flip top lid just like the other mask pack, and it comes foil sealed which you have to remove before use.

My first impression of this was the scent. The 'cucumber' fragrance is really really strong! My whole makeup/skincare drawer stinks of it. I don't really mind, because I quite like the scent and my sense of smell is not the greatest anyway. But those who are sensitive may want to stay away from this.

That said, I really like this mask. It is my favourite of the two. I find it really cooling and refreshing, and very hydrating. I usually have some redness around the nose, and cheeks, but this disappears completely after using this mask. From the pic below you can see that it contains these jelly-like granules. They don't dissolve, and are actually quite firm. I'm not sure what they are, cucumber bits? lol

Again, I did not moisturise my hands for about 3 days before taking these pictures. Probably hard to tell from the photos but skin texture is improved, and softened. <3

Unfortunately, the label is all in Korean so no ingredients list this time. :/ I think the instructions are pretty much the same as for the Hydrating milk pack, I usually leave it on for 15 minutes sometimes slightly more though. Wash off, then follow with the usual skincare routine.

^_^ I really love this mask! Would love to try more masks from The Face Shop. So far they are fairly cheap, they haven't broken me out, and they do their job.

Edit: I forgot to add that this has an anti-acne effect for me. Not so much on existing pimples, but on ones that are just starting to come up. Yay!Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-52129476275625748922011-04-01T00:16:00.002+11:002011-04-06T20:24:06.139+10:00Review: The Face Shop Hydrating milk packI love love loooovve masking, I used to not do masks at all but they really make a difference in improving skin texture and dullness. I've been using two from The Face Shop recently, and I love them both!

First up: Hydrating Milk Pack (AU$17)

From the back:

Lavish parched skin with hydration

This wash-off milk pack provides the concentrated care of a salon facial from the comforts of home to hydrate and soften dry, rough skin.

The benefits of milk: A natural nutritional food containing various proteins, minerals and vitamins that help improve skin elasticity and brighten lackluster skin.

Directions: After washing and applying toner, spread evenly over face, avoiding eye areas. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Caution: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. Discontinue use if signs of irritation appear.

Ingredients:
Water, glycerin, mineral oil, butylene glycol, squalane, trehalose, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), sodium hyaluronate, polysorbate 60, betaine, water (and) butylene glycol (and) nonfat dry milk, sodium acrylate/acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, (and) isohexadecane (and) polysorbate 80, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate (and) PEG-100 stearate, stearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, phenoxyethanol, carbomer, cetearyl alcohol, methylparaben, sorbitan stearate, triethanolamine, allantoin, perfume, disodium EDTA.

So it actually contains skim milk!

Foil sealed

Flip top lid

Swatch!

The texture is smooth and creamy, but light at the same time. I usually use this after a shower at night, and leave it on for 15 minutes, then follow with my usual skincare routine. I don't find it as immediately hydrating as the Fresh Cucumber pack, or the Hydra Intense Gel mask from Lancome. But my skin feels much softer, and looks brighter the next day!

After shot!

I actually didn't use hand cream for about 3 days prior to this. Don't know if it's really visible, but my skin is definitely more moisturised and softer, and texture is improved. This mask is actually not my favourite, as I feel the Fresh Cucumber pack is more hydrating, but this still does the job. Definitely recommended!

Edit: Forgot to mention that this has a milky smell, like powdered milk or baby formula.Stephhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17679318543117437657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1117807050085641795.post-52616855201675632462011-03-28T22:17:00.004+11:002011-03-28T22:34:46.752+11:00YUKLUI*STYLE Birthday Giveaway!Hope I've made it in time!
